Caputo double lifts Sassuolo in coronavirus-threatened Serie A

Francesco Caputo scored a double as Sassuolo beat Brescia 3-0 on Monday in a match which could be the last in Serie A for a month because of the coronavirus epidemic.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) on Monday recommended that all sporting events in the country be suspended until April 3 because of the public health crisis.

The Italian football federation will meet Tuesday to discuss the issue.

The government have already ordered that all sporting events must be played behind closed doors to avoid the spread of the contagion.

In an empty Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, Caputo opened the scoring just before half time off a Gregoire Defrel cross. He added a second on the hour to bring his tally this season to 13 goals.

Sassuolo lost forward Domenico Berardi to injury, but Jeremie Boga added a third with an impressive solo effort with 15 minutes to go.

Sassuolo move up two places to 11th with Mario Balotelli's Brescia rock bottom and nine points from safety.
