Fabio Lucioni, the skipper of promoted Serie A side Benevento, failed a drugs test following the defeat against Torino on September 10, the Italian anti-doping agency (Nado) said Friday.
Nado said the substance involved was clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid.
Lucioni, 29, has been suspended and could be banned for four years, according to Italian sports media.
Central defender Lucioni has been at Benevento since 2014.
