Roma, De Rossi fined after 'offensive' gesture

Roma's Daniele De Rossi and the Serie A club were issued fines of 7,500 euros each on Tuesday after the midfielder made an "offensive" gesture to Lazio fans after victory in the city derby last May.

Serie A disciplinary bosses said that at the end of the match, Italy international De Rossi "celebrated Roma's win by putting both hands down towards the lower half of his body and making an offensive gesture to Lazio's fans".

The decision comes just five days before Roma host Lazio in the first Rome derby of the 2015-2016 season.

Victory for Roma on Sunday could see Rudi Garcia's men regain top spot in Serie A.

Roma currently sit in third place, one point behind leaders Fiorentina and second-placed Inter Milan, while Lazio have slipped to six points off the pace following a shock 3-1 loss at home to AC Milan last Sunday.
