Italian international defender Andrea Barzagli has undergone surgery on his right foot, his Serie A club Juventus confirmed on Tuesday.

Barzagli was operated on in Turku, Finland, by Professor Sakari Orava, and is expected to be sidelined for three months.

The 33-year-old centre back played three matches for Italy in the World Cup currently under way in Brazil in which four-time winners Italy were knocked out in the first round.
