Brazil's president predicts 'great match' against Chile

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said Tuesday she was confident the national team would put on "another great display" when they play Chile for a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Rousseff, who is seeking reelection in October, took to Twitter to praise Brazil's "beautiful win" against Cameroon on Monday, and predicted more of the same.

"We're all confident of another great display against Chile on Saturday," she said.

She also praised coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, popularly known as "Felipao," or Big Phil, for the 4-1 victory over Cameroon, which put Brazil atop Group A and into the round of 16.

"Felipao's team showed guts, talent and determination," she said.

An advocate of strong South American ties, Rousseff met with Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet just before the World Cup opening match on June 12 and traveled with her to Sao Paulo for the game.

Thousands of fans shouted an obscene insult at Rousseff before the match, which saw Brazil beat Croatia 3-1.

Rousseff is leading in the polls ahead of the October elections, but has faced criticism over an economic slowdown, rising inflation and shoddy public services, as well as accusations of overspending, corruption and mismanagement around the World Cup.

She is planning to attend only one other World Cup match, the final on July 13 in Rio de Janeiro.
