Australia are aiming to end their World Cup in style with a shock victory over reigning champions Spain, captain Mile Jedinak said Friday.

The Socceroos have grown in confidence after extending the Netherlands in their narrow 3-2 defeat and Jedinak said his now eliminated team want to go one better against Spain.

"It's going to be up to us again to go out there and get something out of the Spanish, and try to force our game on them," the Crystal Palace midfielder said.

"We've done that in both of those games and although we haven't come away with anything it's time we make that right."

Jedinak said it was "unfortunate" that Tim Cahill, who scored in the 3-1 loss to Chile and volleyed one of the great World Cup goals against the Netherlands, would miss Monday's game.

But he was reluctant to discuss the 34-year-old's international future, including his availability for the the Asian Cup which Australia will host early next year.

Defender Ryan McGowan, whose cross set up Cahill's blistering volley, said he expected wounded Spain to come hard at Australia after their embarrassing group-stage exit.

But he hailed the contribution of manager Ange Postecoglou, who took charge last year and can take great credit for Australia's exploits in a difficult Group B.

"He's instilled a belief in everybody, in the way we play and how he wants us to play and tactically we almost know what they're going to do before they get on the pitch," McGowan said.

"The video analysis and things we do off the pitch has been world-class. That's what he said he wants to do and that can only improve you as a player.

"I think the training's been outstanding, some of the best training I've ever had and I think he's one of the best coaches I've worked with."
