Bale believes Wales are on the way back

Wales hero Gareth Bale is convinced his country have "turned a corner" in their quest to qualify for the 2016 European Championship finals.

Only two goals from the 100 million euros ($134 million, £79 million) Real Madrid star saw Wales win 2-1 away to part-timers Andorra in their opening qualifier.

But Chris Coleman's side were far more impressive in a goalless draw at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina in Cardiff on Friday that left them top of Group B with four points from two games.

Bale now wants the team to carry on from where they left off when Cyprus visit the Welsh capital for Monday's qualifying match.

"We feel like we've turned a corner," Bale said. "We go into Cyprus full of confidence but knowing we need to focus and concentrate.

"We need to get the three points and hopefully we can get another big crowd here on Monday."

More than 30,000 fans were at the Cardiff City Stadium to see Wales more than match group top seeds Bosnia, who took part at this year's World Cup finals, in a match the hosts nearly won thanks to Bale's audacious long-range strike in the dying moments.

It was Wales' biggest home crowd since they faced England at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in March 2011 and Bale was in no doubt of the supporters' influence.

"The fans were absolutely amazing," he said.

"It was great to have a full house almost and hopefully we've done them proud.

"Probably on another night the last 10 minutes is a lot more difficult without that and they were unbelievable.

"They showed they were true Welsh fans, they pushed us over the line and kept us going for the last 10 to 15 minutes."

Wales, looking to qualify for their first major tournament finals since the 1958 World Cup, will hope to extend their one-point lead at the head of a group also featuring Belgium and Israel on Monday.

The result maintains Wales' three-point advantage over Bosnia as the visitors had surprisingly lost their opening qualifier at home to Cyprus last month.

"It's not an easy group by any stretch of the imagination," Bale said.

"We want to win every game but I think a draw is still a very good result against the top seeds of the group," the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur star added.

"We showed passion and fighting spirit and the fans appreciated that we left everything on the pitch.

"It could have been three points but we showed great character and great spirit and a point against a very good team is good," the 25-year-old winger insisted.

"We didn't leave a blade of grass unturned on the pitch and it was a great team performance."
