Everton's rising England star Ross Barkley has sustained a fractured toe, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old midfielder sustained the injury during Everton's FA Cup third-round win over Queens Park Rangers and sat out Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Norwich City in the Premier League.

In a statement, Everton said that Barkley had a "small fracture". It is thought he will be out of action for between three and six weeks.

Everton left-back Baines spent a month out of action prior to Christmas after picking up a similar injury.

Barkley has been one of the breakthrough stars of the current Premier League season and has been tipped for a place in the England squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
