Football: Teenager Bakkali drafted into Belgium squad

PSV Eindhoven's 17-year-old striker Zakaria Bakkali was a surprise inclusion as Belgium coach Marc Wilmots on Thursday named a 25-man squad for next Wednesday's friendly against France in Brussels.

Bakkali, who only made his senior debut for PSV in the club's Champions League third qualifying round, first leg against Belgian side Zulte-Waregem last week, was one of five strikers called up by Wilmots.

Standard Liege captain Jelle Van Damme was recalled after a six-month absence, the defender last appearing for his country in a 2-1 victory over Slovakia in February.

The squad features 11 Premier League-based players, including Chelsea trio Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini and Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

However, there was no place for injured Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, nor Torino goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet, who is serving a three-year, seven-month ban for his alleged involvement in match-fixing while at former club Bari.
