Domenech named Brittany coach

Former France coach Raymond Domenech will take charge of the Brittany football team, an unofficial representative squad, it was revealed on Monday.

Domenech, 64, steered Les Bleus to the 2006 World Cup final, losing to Italy on penalties, before overseeing disastrous campaigns at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Claude Le Roy, who last week was appointed Togo coach, was in charge of the Brittany team's last match in 2013, a 1-0 win over Mali.

To qualify for selection, a player must be born in one of the five Breton departments or have parents or grandparents who originate from those areas, according to the team's criteria.

Former Lorient and Algeria boss Christian Gourcuff, ex-Rangers and Paris Saint-Germain coach Paul Le Guen and current Caen skipper Julien Feret have all previously represented the Brittany region.

The team is scheduled to play three friendlies against Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo from May 22-28, following the end of the French season.
