Canadian international Derek Cornelius has joined Marseille from Swedish club Malmo, the French Ligue 1 side announced on Sunday.

Marseille have not released any financial details of the transfer, but several sports media are quoting a sum of four million euros ($4.3 million) paid to Malmo.

The 26-year-old central defender, who has 26 international caps, played in Germany and Serbia before joining Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019.

After a spell on loan with Greek club Panetolikos, he moved to Malmo in 2023, helping them to win their 23rd league title.

He is Marseille's fifth summer recruit following fellow-Canadian midfielder Ismael Kone, defender Lilian Brassier, English forward Mason Greenwood and Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
