Big-spending Tottenham continued to plan for life without Gareth Bale by signing Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen on a frenetic Friday at White Hart Lane.

With Wales winger Bale on the verge of joining Real Madrid for around £80 million, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been busy in the transfer market over the last few weeks and he completed a remarkable 24-hour spree by landing Eriksen for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £10 million.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Christian Eriksen," a statement on Tottenham's official website announced.

Eriksen moved to Ajax in 2008 from Denmark's Odense and has since gone on to play a total of 161 games for the Eredivisie club scoring 33 times.

Capped 37 times by Denmark, Eriksen enjoyed great success during his time in Amsterdam, winning three consecutive Dutch league championships between 2011 and 2013.

Eriksen's arrival in north London was proceeded by the announcement of deals for Romania defender Vlad Chiriches and Argentina forward Erik Lamela earlier on Friday.

AS Roma's Lamela completed his switch just hours before Eriksen's move and at that point the striker was Tottenham's sixth signing of the summer.

"We are delighted to announce that we've reached agreement with AS Roma for the transfer of Erik Lamela," Spurs said on their Twitter feed.

Roma had already announced an agreement to sell the 21-year-old Lamela on Wednesday for 30 million euros (£25.6 million, $39.6 million) plus a potential 5 million euros more in bonuses.

Despite spending a month out injured during last season, Lamela scored 15 times in 33 games for Roma to finish as Serie A's joint-fifth top scorer.

Romania's Chiriches joined from Steaua Bucharest at the start of the day for a fee in the region of £8.5 million.

Tottenham have now spent approximately £102.8 million in this transfer window on Eriksen, Lamela, Chiriches, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Nacer Chadli.

Villas-Boas's team, who took maximum points from their first two Premier League games this season, face Arsenal in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
