Marseille said Wednesday they have signed Brazilian Luan Peres from Santos on a four-year deal after the 26-year-old passed his medical to become the former European champions' eighth signing of the summer.

Peres had spells in his homeland with Portuguesa, Santa Cruz, RB Brasil, Ponte Preta, Fluminense and Ituano before joining Belgium's Bruges in 2018.

He returned to Santos six months later initially on loan before establishing himself in central defence and earning a permanent deal in 2019.

At Marseille he will meet up with coach Jorge Sampaoli, formerly in the Santos dugout, as well as compatriots Luis Henrique and Gerson.
