Rayo Vallecano return to Spain's top flight after two years

Rayo Vallecano returned to the Spanish top flight on Sunday after two years in the second division with a 2-0 play-off win over Girona.

The win gave the team from the Madrid suburbs a 3-2 aggregate victory after they lost the first leg 2-1 at home last weekend.

Rayo had finished the regular season in sixth place in the second division but they will now join Espanyol and Mallorca, who were automatically promoted, in the top flight next season.

They replace Huesca, Valladolid and Eibar who were all relegated.
