Benfica extend Julio Cesar contract

Portuguese champions Benfica have secured the services of Brazilian international goalkeeper Julio Cesar for a further two seasons, the club said on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old stopper joined Benfica in 2014 in the wake of a 7-1 World Cup semi-final humiliation at the hands of eventual champions Germany.

And after a poor stay at Queens Park Rangers Julio Cesar, who won the Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup with Inter Milan in 2010, now has two Portuguese titles and two League Cups to his name.

"In these two extra years I'll do what I have always done, give everything I can in training and during the games so I can finish off my career well," said the man who played 87 times for Brazil.

He played 34 games this season including seven in their Champions League campaign, where Benfica were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Bayern Munich.
