Kilmarnock furious at disruption of Remembrance silence by Celtic fans
Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes labelled the disruption of a pre-match minute's silence "awful" after his side were beaten 2-0 by Celtic on Sunday.
Celtic fans chanted and unfurled banners during the tribute, held to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth service people in the two world wars and other conflicts, in protest at the British government's position on Israel's war in Gaza.
As a result, referee Nick Walsh cut the period of intended silence short.
"Celtic even decide when the minute's silence stops," said McInnes.
"I thought it was awful. Awful. Why? I'm not going into it, I'm not a politician or anything but it's our ground, it's our minute's silence.
"I don't get why we shouldn't have the wherewithal just to stand and show a bit of respect for one minute."
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers agreed that the silence should have been completed.
Disruption of Remembrance Sunday events has often happened during Celtic matches due to protests over the British army's presence on the island of Ireland.
"I think if it's a minute silence, it should be a minute," Rodgers said in a post-match media conference.
"You guys know the script up here at this time of the year. It's always a challenge. But if it's a minute silence, it's a minute silence. I think we all want to respect that and we understand that some don't. So it can be a divisive one."
