Atalanta slip up at Lecce as Roma held in Serie A

Atalanta slumped to a third defeat in four Serie A games on Wednesday as they lost 2-1 at Lecce, while Roma had to settle for a point away to Sassuolo.

Lecce won for just the second time this season as Federico Baschirotto and Federico Di Francesco scored quickfire goals around the half-hour mark.

Duvan Zapata halved the deficit before half-time but fourth-placed Atalanta lost further ground on unbeaten leaders Napoli, who are eight points clear of AC Milan.

Roma, a point behind Atalanta in fifth, followed up their weekend defeat by Lazio with a 1-1 draw at Sassuolo.

Tammy Abraham's first league goal in two months gave Roma the lead with 10 minutes to play, but Andrea Pinamonti's equaliser denied Jose Mourinho's team victory.

Roma could go into the final round of games before the World Cup in seventh place if Inter Milan beat Bologna later and Juventus win at Verona on Thursday.
