Cologne sign striker Tigges from Dortmund

Cologne confirmed Tuesday the signing of striker Steffen Tigges from last season's Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

After Manchester City completed the transfer of Norway star Erling Haaland on Monday, Dortmund have officially lost two strikers in as many days.

Tigges, Haaland's former understudy, has signed a four-year contract to join Dortmund's Bundesliga rivals Cologne, who qualified for the Europa League by finishing seventh last season.

"I'm sure that I fit in well with the team and the style of play," Tigges said in a statement.

"Cologne is one of Germany's biggest clubs with outstanding support, which played an important role in my move. I can't wait to get started."

The transfer fee is reported to be around 1.5 million euros ($1.6 million dollars).

Tigges, 23, is recovering from an ankle injury he suffered in March, which sidelined him from the final ten league games last season.

Before injury struck, he played nine times in Germany's top flight last season and scored three goals, including one against Cologne in a 2-0 win last October.
