Toffolo strikes as promotion-chasing Huddersfield see off 10-man Hull

Harry Toffolo's late winner helped promotion-chasing Huddersfield defeat 10-man Hull 1-0 in the English Championship on Friday.

The Tigers went a man down in first-half stoppage time when striker Tom Eaves saw red for a second bookable offence.

But the match was still goalless in the 79th minute when Toffolo scored from close range.

Danel Sinani's free-kick was headed towards goal by Tom Lees and parried away by Hull goalkeeper Matt Ingram, before Toffolo bundled the ball in.

Hull substitute Allahyar Sayyadmanesh had a chance to equalise in stoppage time but the Iranian's header flew wide.

Victory saw the Terriers into third place, three points behind Bournemouth but having played four games more than the south coast club.

Only the top two at the end of the regular season in English football's second tier are guaranteed promotion to the lucrative Premier League.

Teams ranked third to sixth will be involved in play-off games to determine the other promoted club.

Huddersfield are now seven points clear of seventh-placed Middlesbrough with six games remaining.

Friday's result was Hull's sixth successive home defeat but they are 13 points clear of the bottom three.
