Rangers fight back to keep in touch with Celtic

Connor Goldson's late strike gave Rangers a crucial 2-1 win at Dundee on Sunday as the Scottish champions kept the pressure on leaders Celtic.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side were rocked by Christie Elliott's early opener for bottom of the table Dundee.

Rangers captain James Tavernier squandered a chance to equalise when he smashed a penalty over the bar.

But Aaron Ramsey levelled in the 65th minute with his first Rangers goal since signing on loan from Juventus in January.

And with only four minutes remaining, Rangers defender Goldson bagged the dramatic winner.

Rangers are three points behind Celtic as domestic football stops for the international break before resuming with a crunch Old Firm clash at Ibrox.

Ramsey made his first league start for Rangers but the visitors in a new 150th anniversary white kit, were stunned in the sixth minute

Jordan Marshall's cross from the left was headed in at the back post by Christie, who out-jumped Ryan Kent to give Dundee the lead.

Rangers supporters bombarded the pitch with tennis balls and referee Bobby Madden stopped play to have them cleared, with the chants from the away fans suggesting it was a protest against the friendly match with Celtic in Australia in November.

The Ibrox side had the chance to level from the spot when Jordan McGhee fouled Alfredo Morelos, but Tavernier blazed over.

Kemar Roofe replaced James Sands and the striker was immediately involved in Rangers' 64th minute equaliser.

Tavernier's cross from the left was headed towards goal by Roofe and the ball fell for Ramsey to chest it over the line.

Rangers kept pressing and in the 86th minute Roofe's shot was blocked and spun up into the air, with Goldson waiting to finish it off from close-range.
