Brereton Diaz scores 20th of season

Chile forward Ben Brereton Diaz hit his 20th Championship goal of the season as Blackburn beat Barnsley 2-1 at home to go third on Wednesday.

Blackburn have the same number of points as second-placed Fulham and are just a point behind leaders Bournemouth thanks to Brereton Diaz's cool finish in the 65th minute that proved decisive in a game his side dominated.

Joe Rothwell scored Blackburn's opener in the 24th minute but Barnsley showed fighting spirit to survive the onslaught and equalised through Carlton Morris's deflected shot. It was the first time Blackburn had conceded a goal in nine hours of play.

Brereton Diaz then showed why he will attract so much interest in the upcoming transfer window by sealing the points and a sixth consecutive league victory, racing down the left to meet John Buckley's pass before directing a low drive into the far corner.

Fulham's game at Reading was postponed due to Covid-19 cases in Reading's squad.
