Brentford top of Championship as late double downs Reading

Brentford came from behind to score two late goals in a 3-1 win over promotion rivals Reading on Wednesday to send the London club top of the English Championship.

Victory, the Bees' fourth successive win in a 21-game unbeaten streak in the league, left them two points clear of second-placed former leaders Norwich.

It also put them four points ahead of third-placed Swansea, who have a game in hand, with only the top two at the end of the regular season guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The match was heading for a draw at 1-1 until Brentford's Ivan Toney, the league's top scorer, chested a cross for Josh Dasilva to fire home four minutes from full-time.

And two minutes later, Toney scored his 23rd league goal this season when he latched onto a rebound after Sergi Canos's shot was parried by Rafael.

Reading, who kicked-off on a seven-match unbeaten league run that included four wins, took a 24th-minute lead through Joao's penalty after Josh Laurent was brought down in the box.

But Brentford, whose last league loss was a 3-2 reverse at Stoke in late October, saw Dasilva equalise before half-time with a fine solo effort.

Defeat dropped hosts Reading down a position to fifth place, with the Royals now seven points adrift of the top two.
