Uganda rout Djibouti 4-1 to reach Cecafa Cup semis

Hosts Uganda made it four wins out of four when they crushed Djibouti 4-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Cecafa Challenge Cup on Sunday.

Eritrea also ensured their first semi-final in 25 years when they drew 0-0 with Somalia in the second Group A match at Kampala's Lugogo Stadium.

Ugandan international Muzamiru Mutyaba put the Cranes on course for the tournament record 13th title win when he scored from the spot in the 14th minute.

Djibouti, the surprise packages of the 2022 World Cup preliminary round in September after beating Eswatini 2-1 to reach the group phase, levelled the scores through Haroun Mohammed in the 68th minute.

Uganda, however came back strongly to score three goals through Joackin Ojera, Ben Ochan and Bright Amukani.

The Ugandans topped the group A with maximum 12 points to set up a semi-final clash with Tanzania on Tuesday.

Defending champions Kenya who won Group B with an unbeaten record will face Eritrea in the other semi-final.

The Red Sea Camels, who are playing in the first Cecafa Challenge Cup in six years last reached this stage in 1994.
