Partick hold Hearts in Scottish Cup quarter-final

Second-tier strugglers Partick Thistle came from behind to hold Hearts to a 1-1 draw in a Scottish Cup quarter-final at Firhill on Monday.

Premiership side Hearts went ahead through captain Christophe Berra's 12th-minute goal and that looked as if it might be enough to see the Edinburgh club into the last four.

But Partick, bottom of the second division Championship, equalised in the 72nd minute through Christie Elliott to earn a replay at Tynecastle a week on Tuesday (March 12).

Berra almost put Hearts in front as early as the second minute when he headed just wide from a Ben Garuccio cross.

But the defender was on target with his second attempt 10 minutes later.

Oliver Bozanic's corner from the left went to Garuccio, who in turn volleyed the ball back into the box where Berra leapt above Jags defender Steven Saunders to head in his second goal of the season.

Hearts kept Thistle penned inside their own box with a succession of corners but, significantly, failed to score the second goal that may well have put the result beyond doubt.

The Jambos, fifth in the Premiership, frantically went in search of a second goal but Hearts manager Craig Levein and his side found themselves having to settle for an unwanted replay.
