Greek champions AEK docked three points over fan violence

Greek champions AEK Athens on Friday were deducted three points by the Super League after fan violence marred last week's 1-1 derby draw against Olympiakos at the Athens Olympic Stadium.

The Greek FA's disciplinary committee also ordered AEK to play their next two home matches behind closed doors and fined the club 73,250 euros ($84,700).

The action was taken after violence broke out inside the stadium at half-time between fans and riot-trained police who used tear gas to put a stop to the trouble within 10 minutes.

No arrests or injuries were reported by police and minimal damage was caused at the stadium.

AEK has said it will appeal the punishment, which would drop them from third place to fifth on 10 points. PAOK Thessaloniki and Atromitos Athens are level at the top with 16 points after six matches.
