Poland's Mierzejewski wins A-League award

Polish star Adrian Mierzejewski has crowned a stellar season for Sydney FC by winning the Johnny Warren Medal on Monday as the best player in Australia's A-League this season.

Mierzejewski received 37 points from a panel that included former professional players, technical experts, match officials and media representatives.

Mierzejewski scored 13 goals and made nine assists during the regular season.

He beat Dimitri Petratos (Newcastle Jets - 26 points), Dutchman Leroy George (Melbourne Victory - 26 points), Brazilian Bobo (Sydney FC - 24 points) and Spaniard Isaias (Adelaide United - 20 points) in the voting.

Mierzejewski becomes the second successive Sydney FC player to receive the honour after Serbian Milos Ninkovic's win last season.

Sam Kerr from Perth Glory and Clare Polkinghorne from Brisbane Roar FC were named joint winners of the Julie Dolan Medal, the W-League's highest honour.
