Neuer, Bonaventura out of Germany-Italy friendly

Germany will be without world-class goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for Tuesday's international friendly against Italy, while the Azzurri are missing winger Giacomo Bonaventura as both players are suffering from illness.

Neuer, who has been voted world goalkeeper of the year in 2013, 2014 and 2015, has dropped out with an upset stomach, while AC Milan winger Bonaventura has been unable to train since Friday with the flu.

Neuer's place in Germany's goal at Munich's Allianz Arena is set to be shared by either Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Paris St Germain's Kevin Trapp or Bernd Leno with two of the three expected to be given a half each.

World champions Germany are looking to bounce back from their 3-2 defeat at home to England on Saturday, when they threw away a two-goal lead, while Italy drew 1-1 with defending European champions Spain last Thursday.

Germany are hoping to end their 21-year wait for a win over the Azzurri having last beaten Italy in 1995 when they ran out 2-0 winners in a friendly.
