Polish football hooligans sentenced in Sweden

A Swedish court on Tuesday sentenced five Polish football fans to jail terms of two and three months after violence following a match between IFK Gothenburg and Slask Wroclaw.

The violence occurred on July 23 both before and after a Europa League qualifier in several locations in Gothenburg in central Sweden.

The five attacked a downtown pub with "smoke bombs, bottles and other objects," caused extensive damage inside and assaulted police officers, the Gothenburg court said.

The five have denied involvement although they have been filmed by bystanders and witnesses. Two of them were sentenced to two months while three others got an additional month.

They will have to pay compensation for damages caused.

Slask Wroclaw was eliminated in the second preliminary match of the Europa League losing the match 2-0.
