Veteran former Brazilian international Grafite helped Qatar giants Al Sadd take control of their Asian Champions League group with a goal in their 6-2 thrashing of Uzbekistan's Lokomotiv Tashkent on Tuesday.

Khalfan Ibrahim struck from the spot in the 27th minute and Hassan Khalid and Nadir Belhadj added two more goals in seven minutes as the 2011 Asian champions enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time in front of their home fans in Doha.

Ibrahim doubled his tally early in the second half before Abdulkarim Hassan and 35-year-old Grafite completed the rout, although the Uzbeks managed to pull two back, courtesy of a fine free-kick from Damir Kojasevic and a late goal from Zhasur Khasanov.

Al Sadd, who fell seven points behind leaders Lekhwiya in the Qatar Stars League by drawing and losing to lesser opponents over the past two weeks, showed there was nothing wrong with their game as they produced an attacking and clinical display as they leapt to the top of Group C with seven points from three matches.

"Today we showed we are a very competent side despite our recent results in the league," Al Sadd coach Hussain Ammouta said.

"We got our planning right in the match and came out comfortable winners," added the Moroccan, who had endured a tough few days as his side, who were neck and neck with Lekhwiya in the race towards an unprecedented 14th league title, suffered shock reverses to hand over the advantage to their rivals.

Meanwhile Saudi giants and former champions Al Hilal, surprisingly beaten by Al Sadd earlier this month, suffered another reverse when they were held to a goalless draw by Iranian outfit Foolad in another Group C game.

In Group A, Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia thrashed Iran's Persepolis 3-0 for their first win that helped them climb to second position with five points from three matches.

Persepolis, who remain top having won their first two matches, were no match for the Saudi side, who led by an Adrian Mierzejewski goal in the 32nd minute and never looked back, although they had to wait until late on to consolidate.

Uruguayan forward Fabian Estoyanoff slotted home from a Mierzejewski pass in the 87th minute and Hassan al-Raheb added one in second half injury time.

Lekhwiya had earlier given former Real Madrid and Barcelona great Michael Laudrup his first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Uzbek side, Bunyodkor, in Tashkent.

Korean Nam Tae-hee scored the only goal of the match when he converted a penalty in the 28th minute.

Late strikes from Pablo Batalla and Yu Dabao gave Beijing Guoan a 2-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds as they took a firm grip on Group G.

Argentinian midfielder Batalla was on target 12 minutes from time before Yu got the clincher in the 84th as Beijing made it three wins from three.

It took a moment of quality to break the deadlock when Batalla latched on to Shusaku Nishikawa's poor, punched clearance and chipped the stranded goalkeeper.

And Batalla also created Beijing's second when his cutback found Yu on the edge of the box and the Chinese forward fired home.

At the halfway stage in the group, Gregorio Manzano's men in green are provisionally six points clear of Brisbane Roar and Suwon Bluewings, who play on Wednesday.

But there was disappointment for other Chinese sides as Guangzhou R&F lost 1-0 at home to Seongnam FC, and Shandong Luneng went down 2-1 at Kashiwa Reysol.

Guangzhou, provisionally third in Group F, now have work to do if they are to emulate their illustrious city rivals Evergrande, who won the title in 2013.

Naoki Wako's injury-time winner shattered Shandong, who slipped to four points back from leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Kashiwa in Group E.

Lee Dong-Gook scored in each half as Jeonbuk thrashed Binh Duong 3-0 to leave the Vietnamese side rock-bottom on zero points in the same group.
