Swedish great Ingesson dies following cancer

Former Sweden international midfielder Klas Ingesson has died at the age of 46 following a long battle with cancer, his former club Elfsborg said Wednesday.

"Klas Ingesson died this morning," said the club from Boras in west Sweden on their internet site.

Ingesson, who played 57 times for Sweden and was part of the squad that finished third at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, had left his functions as Elfsborg coach in October.

He had been suffering from multiple myeloma, a cancer of the white blood cells, since 2009.

During his playing career, Ingesson turned out for teams in England, France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands, having begun his career at IFK Gothenburg.
